Dream Theater - Only A Matter Of Time

A suited man smiled said"It's just a matter of timeYou can have the world at your feet by tomorrowJust sign on this line"
Hold tight limelightApproaching the paramountWith the sun in our eyesFearing family ties, legalizes, compromise

In a dimly lit room with a stool as his stageA dream stricken prince of a pauper's descentHaunts the eavesdropping silenceThat presses his window
As he sweats a performanceTo an audience that ticks on the walls
To the practical observerIt's just a matter of time
You can deviate from the common placeOnly to fall back in lineI understand mine's a risky planAnd your system can't miss
But is security after all a 'causeOr symptom of happiness?
Brave, yet afraid, his eyes on the horizonIn a steady set gaze
A mariner soon from an open cocoonTakes a moment to summon his courageTo stifle his grave apprehensionAnd trembling, approaches the surf

A father's benediction as his hopeful son departsTo brave the sea of rage and conquer at all costsLingers in his memoryAnd visions still surviving in a logic-proof shell
That should have been held sacred, safe and hidden wellAre compromised in usury
With every rising sun that yields no sight of landThe hesitation cultivates within the tired man
And rumors spread of mutinyAnd though the time will come when dream and day uniteTonight the only consolation causing him to fightIs fearless faith in destiny

Even when plan fall to piecesI can still find the couragewith promise I've found in my faith
Likely or not, it's a dream that we keep
And at odds with our senses we'll climbBut if faith is the answer, we've already reached itAnd if spirit's a signThen it's only a matter of timeOnly a matter of time
